Abstract
Based on herbarium and literature studies, an attempt is made to untangle the confusing taxonomic history of the Australian fan-palm Licuala ramsayi. Recent field work conducted in Queensland, Australia, has revealed considerable morphological variation in this species and has led to the description of a new variety (var. tuckeri) from Cape York Peninsula.
