Abstract

The idea for Urban Troposphere grew out of a suggestion by former Umbrella President and practising artist Robyn Walton, for a curated exhibiton that investigated urban imagery in the north Queensland tropics. …The underlying thesis of Urban Troposphere developed by guest curator Brett Adlington, is that while the people of north Queensland do live ina spectacularly powerful and unique environment, our culture, lifestyle and daily experience is typically Australian if not global and overwhelmingly suburban. Robert Barton Director Umbrella 2001.

Adlington states about Lord's work, 'The most striking thing about these works is the strong geographic elelment. The honing in of the camera lens abstracts the subject matter, with coloured road markings dividing the image. Layering of markings such as these, whether 'official' road markings or the act of an individual, hint at many levels of experience with, and multiple impacts on the environment'. Ten screenprinted images on layers of plastic, fabric and paper by Anne Lord.
