Abstract

There are many methods of performing surgery for rectal prolapse, including abdominal nonlaparoscopic, abdominal laparoscopic, and perineal approaches. The laparoscopic approaches appeared to offer significant benefits in terms of cosmesis, return of bowel function, decrease in morbidity, length of hospital stay, and length of time to return of bowel function. Only with longer follow-up will function results and recurrence rates become known.
