Abstract

[Extract] The small pronocephaloid family Rhabdiopoeidae Poche, 1926 contains four monotypic genera parasitic in the digestive tract of dugongs (Order Sirenia). The family is distinguished by the absence of a head-collar and of rows of papillae on the ventral surface, the location of the genital pore in the anterior half of the body and by modifications of the posterior end of the body (a broad muscular lobe or a long strap-like process) or by protrusible tentacles associated with the excretory vesicle.
