Public concerns and private interests in the construction of a health and physical education policy document in Queensland: A preliminary analysis

Abstract

This paper presents a critical policy analysis of Health and Physical Education curriculum in Queensland, and is based on doctoral research. It is a significant paper in recognising policy as a political act, an economy of power and a process of micropolitical perspectives. The paper also suggests that policy is contested and remodelled in light of its social and cultural contexts, highlighting that power and politics are central to policy construction and implementation. Themes interpreted through textual analysis of curriculum drafts illuminate the above raised perspectives.
