Reported and perceived drug and alcohol use amongst Australian university students
Walker, Karen (2000) Reported and perceived drug and alcohol use amongst Australian university students. Journal of the Australian and New Zealand student services association, 16 . pp. 1-34.
Australian university students’ alcohol and drug use patterns were surveyed concurrently with their beliefs regarding their student peers’ alcohol and drug use. University students are typically portrayed as heavy users of alcohol and drugs. Students were found to be moderate users of alcohol and minimal users of drugs whilst simultaneously holding to the belief that the ‘normal’ university student was a heavy user of alcohol and drugs. The results of the study have far reaching implications for universities planning alcohol and drug prevention and harm minimization programs.
