Abstract

The paper concerns the representation of North Queensland in the adaptation of Louis Nowra’s play Radiance to Rachel Perkins’ post-Mabo film, Radiance, released in 1998. The trauma and dispossession of the women of Radiance evokes a mythic anti-Eden, a haunted home, the gothic aura of which is suggested through allusions to Madam Butterfly and through images of sugar cane fields, and music.
