Research Statement
| Research Background: | Many artists have worked with environmental issues and these emerge from 1960s Land Art to Eco Art and now (lower case) ‘land, art’ referring to the importance of land over art institutionalized names and products. My quest was to develop work that brings attention to the watersheds of Queensland’s Lake Eyre system, the Great Artesian Basin and the Murray River Catchment. Though these are large and significant parts of Australia’s water systems and survival of many communities, they are often confused as water supply for opposite ends of Australia. |

| Research Contribution: | The artist’s capacity to bring attention to an issue driven topic such as water resources can be a significant achievement. The Murray Darling Palimpsest Project in 2005 – 6 and curators assisted this work and the capacity to share the concerns that involve north and south Australia. The artist’s talk also contributed to contextualizing the shortages and concerns across two regional cities, Mildura and Townsville. |
| Research Significance: | Response to this work came from audiences in Townsville and Mildura. The website for MDP also incorporated a written contribution from Lord about the basins and water across the broader Australian landscape. |
