|Research Background:||People Identity Place is a research-strength at JCU and as such the juxtaposition of images of people in their known places and environments was important to signify both the impact of the place on the person and how the person interested in sustainability adapted to and adopted a place.|
|Research Contribution:||The presentation of these images for people and place in Perc Tucker Regional Gallery broadens the dialogue for our connection to place and contributes to further understanding of how these people respected their place. The images of people have been composed in a landscape or horizontal format. The person in a section of the image relates to a place as depicted in the image. Rather than the traditional portrait, these images are about people in places.|
|Research Significance:||This investigation is important in relation to Queensland locations where the six people depicted in images were connected to the place where they lived.|

Artist’s Statement from (W)ink Catalogue 2002: This work makes use of photo-screen printed images of people and involves knowledge of the person’s history and environment.
Sometimes the images are from a long time ago, say twenty years or more, and belong to the artist’s collection of images about people. The combination of place and person investigates ideas about locality and character. This work about rural environments follows recent work exploring place in urban situations.
The technique used over the last twelve months involves photo-screen printing on various materials. It ranges from urban environments with traces of human impact to an environment with a figure that relates to a particular region.
This work is primarily on rag paper with some fabric overlays. The overlays are intended to give an additional feeling though changing surfaces.
