Abstract

An on-line delay estimation algorithm based upon the windowed average magnitude difference function (AMDF) that is suitable for determining the subsample delay between two noisy signals is introduced. The new estimator uses the AMDF to directly update the delay estimate, which is in turn used to adapt the coefficients of a fractional delay filter (FDF). The new estimator consists predominately of addition and subtraction operations and outperforms conventional FDF based estimators in low signal-to-noise ratio situations.
