Abstract

The chapter calls for a anthropological approach, which not only recognises the specificities of particular human groups, but also their dynamism and strength. Anthropologist are called upon to analyse how the agency of local groups is affected in global contexts, how people become agents in their own empowerment, and strategically resist colonisation. Such strategies of resistance include expressions of cultural creativity, such as visual arts, music, dance, theatre. Art, in particularly the performative aspect in all forms of art, is means by which indigenous groups enact and claim cultural singularities.
