Abstract

[Extract] Darrell Lewis characterises the Northern Territory's Victoria River District (VRD) as "an immense and complex tract of country, at times sweeping and majestic, at other times rugged and mysterious". Landscape features prominently in his history, not merely as an inert backdrop to events but as a factor that decisively shaped those events and was in turn shaped by them.
