Confidentiality in child protection cases: who benefits?

Abstract

The identity of the mandatory reporter and the naming of children and families is protected from disclosure by legislation however this may not be in interests of the child or the general public - increased risk of false, mistaken or careless notifications - closed courts reduce transparency and accountability of the Children's Court and authorities - removal of the rules of evidence results in biased, inaccurate reports by caseworkers.
