Abstract
This report documents the outcomes of the Traditional Owners of the Wet Tropics Strategic Research Direction Workshop held at Innisfail from the 15th -16th September 2009. The objectives of the workshop were to: • Present outcomes and experiences from MTSRF Funded Rainforest Aboriginal research in period 2006-2010; • Provide a synthesis of work that has occurred through Rainforest CRC relevant to Aboriginal Peoples; • Provide opportunities for Traditional Owners to discuss emerging research priorities for natural and cultural resource management including consideration of the Australian Government’s new priorities; • Provide opportunities for interactions between Traditional Owners, managers and researchers regarding these emerging issues and priorities; • Enable direction-setting by Traditional Owners for the next stage of MSTRF; • Advise MTSRF on the best means of ensuring ongoing advice to researchers about Aboriginal considerations and connections in research during the last year of the current MTSRF 2009-2010; • Identify processes for ongoing engagement of Traditional Owners for establishing next stages of MTSRF research.
