Abstract
The "100 Years of Tropical Medicine Conference" which is taking place from 11-14 June 2010 in Townsville, Australia, provides an ideal and timely opportunity to reflect on the contributions of our tropical medicine pioneers in Australia. This conference, a partnership of many professional organisations and hosted by the Tropical Division of the Australian Institute of Medical Scientists (AIMS) and The Australasian College of Tropical Medicine (ACTM), provides a focus for a centennial celebration of their legacy. It will encapsulate the past, present and future of tropical medicine in Australia - a fascinating and often romanticised field of medicine and medical science.
