Abstract

[Extract] Little enough is written about the industrial relations of Papua New Guinea (PNG), which is disappointing because its institutions were deliberately fostered by Australia in the 1960s and early 1970s when the then Territory was approaching independence. Although disappointing, it is not surprising considering that the Australian media continue to refer to Indonesia as 'our nearest neighbour' overlooking both the independence and immediate proximity of PNG. Benedict Imbun's study is a welcome extension to the few studies we have of work and industrialisation in our nearest neighbour.
